Next-generation professional dental hygiene: a deep cleaning of teeth and gums, done gently and comfortably, with AIRFLOW® technology (Guided Biofilm Therapy).

Professional dental hygiene session with AIRFLOW (GBT)
In short

Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is next-generation professional dental hygiene: it removes plaque, tartar and bacterial biofilm in a targeted, gentle way, with a jet of ultra-fine powder (AIRFLOW®) and minimally invasive instruments. It is more comfortable than traditional cleaning and also suitable for people with braces or implants. It generally needs to be repeated every 6 months to prevent cavities and gum disease.

What is Guided Biofilm Therapy?

Professional teeth cleaning with Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) is a modern protocol that identifies and removes plaque, tartar and bacterial biofilm in a targeted way, with a jet of ultra-fine powder (glycine or erythritol) and gentle instruments. It is more comfortable and less invasive than traditional hygiene treatment, because it respects enamel and gums.

Why have a professional cleaning

Even if you brush well, plaque and tartar build up in some spots that a toothbrush cannot remove. If they are not removed, they promote cavities, gingivitis and periodontitis. Professional cleaning complements your daily oral hygiene and keeps teeth and gums healthy over time.

The stages of treatment

GBT follows precise steps: disclosing the biofilm with a dye, removing plaque and biofilm with AIRFLOW®, removing the most stubborn tartar, a final check and, when indicated based on individual risk, applying fluoride. Each stage is guided by what we actually find in the mouth, for a tailored result.

Who it is especially suitable for

GBT is ideal for people with orthodontic appliances or implants, for those with sensitive gums and for patients in maintenance after periodontal therapy. The gentleness of the protocol also makes it suitable for those who find traditional cleaning hard to tolerate.

Does it hurt? How long does it take?

The session is generally not painful and is well tolerated, partly thanks to the ultra-fine powder and lukewarm water. A session lasts on average between 45 and 60 minutes, depending on the amount of tartar and biofilm to be removed.

How often to repeat it

For most people it is recommended every six months, but the frequency is personalized: people at higher risk of cavities or gum disease, or in periodontal maintenance, may need sessions closer together.

Professional cleaning does not replace home care

GBT is a complement to daily oral hygiene, not a substitute for it. During the session we give you practical advice on toothbrush, floss and interdental brushes, so that the work done at the clinic is kept up day after day at home.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have my teeth cleaned?

For most people every six months, but the frequency is personalized based on the risk of cavities and gum disease. The first hygiene visit is usually enough to determine it.

Does GBT cleaning hurt?

Generally not: the protocol is gentle and well tolerated thanks to the ultra-fine powder and minimally invasive instruments.

Do I need a professional cleaning if I brush well at home?

Yes. Even with good daily hygiene, plaque and tartar remain in some spots that a toothbrush does not remove: a professional cleaning eliminates them and complements your home care.

Is it suitable with braces or implants?

Yes, it is especially suitable in these cases, because it cleans effectively and gently even around orthodontic brackets and implants.

Does a cleaning whiten my teeth?

It removes surface stains and restores the natural color of your teeth, but it is not whitening. To lighten the color of the enamel, a dedicated whitening treatment is needed.
