Oral and guided surgery
Complex extractions, wisdom teeth and guided implant surgery, performed safely thanks to 3D planning.

Oral surgery includes complex extractions, impacted wisdom teeth and minor tissue procedures, as well as guided implant surgery. Every procedure is planned in 3D with a cone beam CT scan and performed under local anesthesia, with attention to comfort and recovery. Surgery is overseen by Dr. Gianluca Gentile, who has hospital experience in surgery and implantology.
What is oral surgery?
Oral surgery covers surgical procedures in the mouth: difficult extractions, impacted wisdom teeth, and minor procedures on soft tissue and bone. They are performed under local anesthesia, with attention to the patient's comfort during the procedure and to their recovery afterwards.
Wisdom teeth: when they are removed
Wisdom teeth are removed when they are impacted, partially impacted or poorly positioned, or when they cause pain, recurring infections, decay in the neighboring teeth or crowding. They do not always need to be extracted: the decision is made after a clinical and radiographic assessment.
Minor soft tissue procedures
In addition to extractions, oral surgery includes minor soft tissue procedures, such as frenectomy (correction of a frenulum that is too short) or the removal of small lesions for diagnostic purposes. These are in-office procedures, performed under local anesthesia and, when possible, with the support of a laser.
Guided implant surgery
With a cone beam CT scan and a custom surgical guide, we place implants exactly where they were planned on the computer. Guided surgery means greater precision, less invasiveness, less swelling and shorter treatment times compared with the traditional technique.
How the procedure works
After 3D planning, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, in a controlled environment. Before starting, we explain each stage, the post-operative instructions and what to expect, so you can approach the procedure with peace of mind.
Post-operative recovery
In the following days some swelling or mild discomfort is normal, and can be managed with the medication and instructions we give you. We give you practical advice on diet, hygiene and activity, to support a recovery that is as smooth as possible.
Risks and safety
Like any surgical procedure, oral surgery carries possible risks, which we keep to a minimum with careful planning and, when useful, with 3D guided surgery. We discuss them openly with you during the informed consent process, before any procedure.
Surgical experience
Surgery is overseen by Dr. Gianluca Gentile, head of the Odontostomatology Unit at the I.N.I. in Grottaferrata, who also works weekly at San Raffaele Hospital in Milan in the fields of surgery and implant dentistry.

Frequently asked questions
Does wisdom tooth removal hurt?
The extraction is performed under local anesthesia, which in most cases means the procedure does not hurt. In the following days there may be swelling and discomfort, which can be managed with the prescribed medication.
How long does recovery take?
Discomfort and swelling generally ease within a few days. Timing and instructions depend on the type of procedure: we explain them to you before going ahead.
Is the procedure safe?
Careful planning and, when useful, 3D guided surgery keep the risks to a minimum. As with any surgical procedure, we explain the benefits and possible risks to you before starting.
Do wisdom teeth always have to come out?
No, not always: they are removed when they cause problems or are likely to. The decision is made after a clinical and radiographic assessment.
When can I go back to eating normally?
For the first few hours and days we tell you what to eat; the return to normal is generally gradual and quick. We give you precise instructions for your case.
